Hello everyone and welcome to Books Unbound, the podcast where we Unbind Books to get to their hearts with your hosts.

0:14.5

Us, it's Ariel and Raylene. Hello.

0:18.2

Woo-hoo. Welcome everyone to the pod.

0:24.6

Today is a snow day.

0:27.6

Snow day.

0:28.6

You know what I love about snow days, like when it's a day with a lot of snow, thinking about

0:33.6

all the little children who get to stay home and don't have to go to school.

0:38.4

Yeah, good for them. They deserve it. They earned it. They've worked hard all year. Now they get to

0:45.7

stay at home. I think that's so cute. But yeah, this has been by far the snowiest year of my time

0:53.9

living in Nova Scotia. And there are parts of Nova Scotia that

0:57.5

get a lot of snow. I don't live in one of those parts. I live like on the coast. And so the ocean,

1:04.0

water, pressure, you know, something or other, there's not that much snow. But I was talking to some old ladies that I love, and I was like, this is the most snow we've had in the five years I've lived here. And they were like, this is the most snow we've had in 10 years. And I was like, okay, cool. So it is abnormal. I was like, have I just been tricked? Like the last five years were a fluke. Maybe. No. No. Yeah. And I've got something similar to like, uh, it was pretty snowy last year, but it wasn't like every time it snowed, we were like, this is not that bad. Like it never got super like deep and stuff like that. Like it was just kind of a mild snow. But everyone we talked to who's, lived here for longer than us, we're like, this is not normal. Like, this is not how it

1:48.2

usually is. And so we were kind of like... You came on a gentle year. Yeah, which was good. It was a good way to, like, ease us into the Alberta cold. Like, it was still really cold, but there wasn't as much snow so it felt like okay we can handle this put a jacket on yeah you know you'll be

2:00.1

fine um this year there's a bit more snow yeah just put on a coat or something. I don't know. This year I've actually worn a ball a clava while going outside, which I think is a marked change from last year. That's a big one. You know what? My face is actually freezing. Maybe I should do something about it. That's crazy. And yeah, we had another big dump of snow. I think on the last episode, if there was a weather update, I was talking about how beautiful and spring like it was, and then literally a couple of days later, we got this huge dump of snow. And so now it's all white and bright outside and so I'm loving it

2:35.6

it is like pretty like we talked about in the last one it's pretty it is

2:39.2

um I do think I'm going to buy a snowblower though oh yeah I'm jealous of all

2:45.3

that like I don't need one because people come and shovel our driveway quite

2:48.6

regularly but I did have to go up and buy shovels because they weren't shoveling quickly enough. And we were like, we got to go somewhere.

2:54.9

I had to like go for a hike in the snow to get some shovels. It was lots of fun.

3:01.0

I feel like, well, basically, because I live in the country and my parents are going to live in the

3:05.3

country and are working on their house, We both have bigger, longer driveways.

3:10.8

And we're like, let's just go 50-50 on a snowblower.
