0:56.8	a quick minute for three stat facts about neural tube defects.
1:02.4	So one is that pregnant individuals are advised to avoid hot tubs and saunas early in pregnancy
1:09.7	as elevated body temperatures increase the risk for neural tube defects.
1:15.4	Stat fact number two, since folic acid fortification was mandated in 1998, neural tube birth defects
1:23.4	have dropped by 28% in the United States.
1:27.1	And stat fact number three, between 18 and 73% of children with spina bifida have a latex
1:35.2	allergy due to high exposure to latex through surgical and medical procedures, typically
1:41.2	multiple surgical and medical procedures.
1:44.4	And how about one more bonus stat fact, spina bifida is Latin for split spine.
