You hear it a lot or maybe you don't because you don't read a bunch of personal finance books like I do.

But, well, I did, I don't read a ton now, but people say you got to live

within your means. Best book, one of the best books, richest man in Babylon, I just gave

it to my oldest because he's going to be 14 soon. I said you got to read this book and he's

reading it. He didn't devour it the way I did when I was his age, but that's okay.

Talks about, you know, a portion of everything you earn is yours to keep.

Fancy way of saying you need to live within your means.

But living within your means doesn't just mean, you know, until you don't, right?

It doesn't mean, oh, I'm saving up some money to buy that computer or that car or a house.

It means that you save it forever. It goes back to the

non-negotiable discussion we had last week. It's yours for later. When income

will no longer be something you want to worry about or have to worry about.

But means, what exactly do we mean by means?

And I would encourage you to define it in the smallest way possible.

I would encourage you to think about your means as if you're on salary

the lowest amount you make.

So if you're on salary, but you get an occasional bonus,

the bonus is not your means.

Bonus is gravy.
