0:50.7	Okay. Well today I'm speaking with Megan Phelps-Roper about a podcast series she's produced
0:58.4	over at the Free Press, which is the media platform that Barry Weiss and Nelly Bowles and a few others
1:04.9	have created. And really the purpose of this podcast is to bring your attention to it. It's a
1:10.0	wonderful series titled The Witch Trials of JK Rowland. And if you haven't heard about the
1:17.2	controversy that has subsumed the life of JK Rowland, Megan and I will explain it.
1:23.8	But suffice it to say this is an episode of the podcast that will pitch me with both feet
1:29.6	onto the topics of trans rights and trans activism and the way in which they collide with
1:37.8	women's rights and free speech and other things we value. Given how combustible this subject is,
1:47.2	I think I need to say a few things at the outset, some of which I say in my conversation with Megan.
1:53.6	First, I have no doubt that gender dysphoria is a real phenomenon, which is to say that some people
2:00.1	feel that they have been more or less born into the wrong body and are made powerfully unhappy
2:07.2	by that discovery and want to transition to one or another degree in their gender identity
2:15.6	and perhaps use hormone treatments and or surgeries to accomplish that.
