πŸ“œ TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 6:1-5

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor,
have given your pledge for a stranger,
if you are snared in the words of your mouth,
caught in the words of your mouth,
then do this, my son, and save yourself,
for you have come into the hand of your neighbor:
go, hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor.
Give your eyes no sleep
    and your eyelids no slumber;
save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

A given proverb in essence is not always applicable to every situation in life.

0:53.0

It's because it's general in nature, it doesn't speak to the specifics of a particular situation.

0:58.0

But the reason I bring that up is because I want to look at Proverbs Chapter 6 at a passage that's often used

1:04.8

to talk about the issue of debt.

1:08.1

And it's a powerful warning.

1:10.0

It really is.

1:11.0

From the perspective of wisdom, let me read it to you, it's Proverbs 6 versus 1 through 5.

1:16.0

And you'll hear people like Dave Ramsey talking about this quite often.

1:19.8

Says my son, if you have put up security for your neighbor if you have taken

1:25.4

shaken hands in pledge for a stranger you have been trapped by what you said

1:30.3

ensnared by the words of your mouth.

1:33.8

So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you've fallen into your neighbor's hands.

1:39.6

Go to the point of exhaustion and give your neighbor no rest.

1:44.6

Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.

1:48.8

Free yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
