1:07.3	Imagine my surprise the other day when your guest Paul Beaver mentioned my local pub,
1:12.4	the Royal Oak in Goodworth Clapford.
1:15.4	The pub's claim to fame is that the original building was destroyed by an off-course V1 flying
1:20.7	bomb in 1944.
1:22.7	I'm writing today to tell you a bit about my grandfather, group captain H.G. Bill Rowe,
1:29.4	DFC, whose services span two world wars and who was mentioned in Guy Gibson's book,
1:35.0	Enemy Coast ahead.
1:37.4	My grandfather came from a long line of military men.
1:41.0	We have medals going back to the Crimean War with clasps for Incomon, Balaklava and Sebastian.
1:48.0	He was born in 1896 in Rannocket, India where his father was serving as a sergeant in
1:53.6	the Essex Regiment.
1:55.9	During the First World War, Bill joined an infantry regiment as a private, later being
2:00.1	promoted to acting Second Lieutenant.
