Summary

Steve is back from the Frank Church Wilderness after a successful Bighorn Sheep hunt. On that hunt, Steve was joined by his good friend Tyler Boschma, and together they notched Steve's once-in-a-lifetime Idaho Bighorn tag, then proceeded to complete the 21-mile packout to an airstrip, allowing them to get flown out of the wilderness. Steve and Tyler (now known together as "Aerosmith") share the ups-and-downs of the hunt, discuss the challenges of hunting in "The Frank", provide the play-by-play leading up to the shot opportunity, and much more. I think at this point, you're not a guest anymore. So I'm going to skip some of the introduction

0:34.0

that we normally do for a guest because you're just like a number one,

0:38.5

a close friend, but number two, you've been on the podcast plenty of time.

So if people want to go back and hear who Tyler Boschma is, they certainly have ample

opportunities to do that.

0:47.8

But yeah, let's go ahead and dive into the story.

0:49.8

Steve, I know that we've talked about this sheep tag a little bit in previous episodes and on Monday minutes and things like that.

0:58.5

But I know that there'll be people tuning into this episode that maybe didn't get some of that.

1:02.1

So let's just start square one.

1:05.1

You had a sheep tag in the Frank Church wilderness.

1:07.0

How did that come about?

1:08.0

What was the origins of this whole hunt?

1:33.4

Yeah. So the origins of the of the tag or Idaho has our kind of once in a lifetime species. So you got mountain goat, big horn sheep, desert sheep and moose. Mountain goat was tops on my list through that back in 2014 after six or seven years of applying. And then ever since then, I decided to put in for sheep. As a resident, the Frank Church odds are really good just because it's a tough hunt. It's low success odds. Logistically, it's tough. You got to either hike a long

1:38.8

ways to get in there or fly in. And it's just also a very physical hunt as Tyler can attest to here.

1:46.6

So yeah, I finally got the tag this year.

1:49.4

It was super, super excited.

1:53.0

One thing I did different on my mountain goat tag, I spent I think 17 days scouting.

1:59.6

And I and then hunted about 36 hours to kill my mountain goat.

2:03.7

And it was kind of like it was such a like bittersweet like awesome.

2:07.8

I killed my goat.
