Summary

Am I doing this wrong?” The question haunts so many of us on our grief journey. We look around at other widows, compare our progress to arbitrary timelines, and wonder if our unique experience somehow means we're failing at grief.

In this episode, I tackle the common fear that there's a "right way" to grieve and explain where this anxiety actually comes from.

Join me this week as I explore the pressure to grieve according to societal expectations, the common fears of grieving “wrong” or not doing enough, and questions to ask yourself instead of focusing on whether you’re grieving correctly.

Hey there, welcome to another episode of the podcast. If you have ever wondered if you're grieving

0:38.8

the right way or found yourself silently worried that you're doing it wrong, that something about

0:44.3

your experience means you're not grieving correctly or worse that you're broken, this episode

0:49.4

is for you. Today, I want to unpack where that question even comes from, why it's so common, and what I want

0:56.8

you to focus on instead. Because, spoiler alert, if you're asking that question, you're probably

1:03.1

doing a lot better than you think. And that's what this episode is all about. First, a little

1:08.7

update from my world. The mulch update. I stopped at 150. I got a refund on

1:15.6

those remaining 30 bags. Also, I didn't get them on sale, and I really wanted that sale price,

1:20.4

so I just decided to stop at 150. I've been doing so much work on the house and on the yard.

1:25.8

My dad and I painted the deck and my screened

1:28.6

and porch this weekend. It was a lot of work, but it looks so much better. Also, I got the pool

1:35.1

open last week. The pool heater decided to break. So that was super fun and unexpected expense there

1:40.2

to replace the pool heater. But my youngest is having a graduation party this weekend

1:44.9

graduating from high school. And so there will be lots of teenagers at my house, and I really

1:49.9

wanted to have it done. I also never had the experience of vacuuming out the pool cover.

1:55.1

So that was fun. I got a new shop vac, and I filled it up four times. So I've been doing a lot of work outside. I always like to

2:03.1

give you an update on my life anyway, but it's been so interesting. I remember after Hugo died,

2:07.5

and also I remember after I got a divorce from my first husband, I remember this energy of

2:13.9

needing to prove to myself that I could do it, right, that I could go it alone. And this time
