0:20.3	All right, guys, welcome back. All week this week, we're going to be looking at claims of
0:24.1	toxic masculinity from our culture, and then we're going to see what the Bible has to say about
0:28.7	those claims, and we'll keep hammering home the point of tethered masculinity as a counter
0:33.9	to the claims of culture. So tethered masculinity, again, our definition for this week,
0:38.5	it's the identity and actions of a man submitted to the authority of scripture. So here's
0:43.7	cultural claim number two. Masculine leadership is oppressive. So you've surely heard this before,
0:50.4	but this claim is not mostly said for the most part. It's mostly screamed out by people.
0:55.6	You know, they'll shriek things like, the patriarchy, the patriarchy, the patriarchy, which is
0:59.5	ultimately just short form for the claim that masculine leadership is oppressive. You'll see a bunch of
1:04.9	women with nothing better to do dressed up in handmade's tail outfits outside the Supreme Court.
1:09.2	If they make a decision, that would make it slightly harder for women to kill their unborn children.
1:13.9	But hey, the patriarchy or something.
1:16.2	But if we're being honest, the cultural claims aren't totally false.
1:20.2	I mean, there are forms of masculine leadership that are, in fact, oppressive.
1:24.1	They don't lead to human flourishing.
1:26.0	And yes, it would be okay to categorize those
1:28.0	things as toxic. But again, the people yelling those claims are painting with too broad of a brush as
1:33.3	they try to push masculinity to the fringes of society. So while I agree that masculine leadership can be
1:40.1	oppressive, I want to remind them that tethered masculinity is never oppressive, because a
1:47.2	masculinity that is tethered to the will and word of God leads to life and flourishing.
1:52.9	So let's actually go to Ephesians 5. Let's start in verse 22. The apostle Paul says this,
