Summary

Studies show that men playing video games is cited as a cause in 15% of divorce cases. But video games aren't the only struggle - sports, time with friends cars and other hobbies can all create difficulty if not handled wisely.

Marriage takes compromise - and that includes finding balance in activities that each person enjoys doing alone. Jesse and Lindsey have argued over the topic of hobbies since they were first married. But 8 1/2 years later, they are not perfect, but they have learned a lot.

They share what they have gained from counselors and their own experiences, they discuss the changes that they've implemented to make life more enjoyable and how they have learned to use communication and shared responsibilities to create joy in their home.

And so I wanted to share a couple of those.

Firstly, the reason that we're addressing this topic is because it's been one of the biggest arguments in our own marriage and one of the most consistent arguments.

And the struggle that we have with it is that we see things so differently. We grew up with different experiences we grew up with different morals we grew up with

minds and different ways of viewing things as male and female. And studies show

0:39.5

that men playing video games is cited as a cause in 15% of divorce cases. So 15% of

0:48.4

divorces are happening because of video games specifically.

0:52.7

with your spouse if you have a struggle with video games or sports

0:59.2

or cars or going out with your buddies in a way that is causing issues within your marriage.

1:04.8

Any hobby or activity because we're speaking not only to the men but we're also speaking to the

1:10.4

women because I've had to learn a lot through all of this and I want to share

1:14.7

two verses before we jump in. For the women this is something that's really

1:20.0

helped me. The Bible tells us to not be easily offended. Once something

1:26.2

bothers us it's easy for us to hold a record of wrongs which 1st Corinthians 13

1:30.6

warns against and it's easy for us to become agitated every single time the issue happens

1:35.7

because we're embittered and so we're already angry at the past time they

1:39.1

played video games or watch sports or we're not with their friends so the next time it happens, we're angrier.

1:45.0

But we're not to hold record of wrongs

1:48.0

and we're not to be easily offended

1:51.0

by our spouse's hobbies.
