Hello and welcome to 31 Days of Terror Day 26 and I have

six listener stories for you lovely lot today and story number one comes from Stella.

My uncle Azzi was a lighthouse keeper and was not a man who believed in the paranormal.

One of the first lighthousees that he worked on in the 1950s was Longstone Lighthouse which is

located on the Faren Islands off the coast of Northumberland. It is famous as being the lighthouse

from which Grace Dyerning and her father set out in a four man cobble to rescue nine survivors

of a shipwreck during the 19th century. Grace and her father were awarded a silver medal for

their bravery and Grace became a national heroine but sadly died of tuberculosis at the age of 26.

Trinity house who runs the lighthousees would have three keepers on the lighthouse to cover the

eight hour shifts two months on the island and then a month off. The two keepers told my uncle Azzi

that the ghost of Grace Dyerning haunted the lighthouse and that the door to her room halfway

up the tower was always open. If he closed the door on his way up the stairs to put the light on

it would be open when he came back down. He did this and sure enough the door was open but he was

convinced that the other keepers were following him up the stairs to open it again. When they insisted

that they were not he made them all climb up to the light closing the door on the way as they

made their way back down the door was open. As I said my uncle Azzi was not a man who believed in

the paranormal and would scoff at any ghost stories but he shared this one and said that he had no

answer to it. As I was writing this I looked up about haunting and long stone lighthouse and

sure enough in the 1970s two keepers claimed to have heard Grace walking around the engine room

in the tower. Long stone lighthouse became fully automated in 1990 but I think that if you went there

you would find the door to her room open still. And story number two comes from Anthony.
