Summary

We're back! At long last, after a lot of confusing scheduling and weird decisions, WDF is finally ready to introduce to you what we have planned for the next few years. It is an investigation of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) like you've never seen it before, and I couldn't be more excited to begin! Listen in here for a rundown of what we've done so far since our too eager release back in May 2018, and what we plan to do going forward. For those confused with what this all means, and why there's so many introduction episodes floating around, look no further than this episode, which is made up of explainers, disclaimers, and probably a few complainers! Thanksss!

Hello and welcome history friends,

Patrons all to the Thirty Years War, remastered, redone, reworked, remade, re-configured, and read-a-dib-do.

I'm so happy to be back in the saddle of podcasting, and I can't thank you all enough for not giving up on this show when we took a break following the Versailles Anniversary Project.

Thanks also for not giving up on this show because of the Versailles Anniversary Project.

In the three months or so since we've been away, I've started my history PhD at Trinity College, Dublin, and things have all gotten a little bit real.

For the next four years, for better or for worse, I'll be taking part in the journey to add

1:01.7

three new letters to my name, and we will be tasked here with delving deeper than ever before

1:07.3

into this incredible story. In the meantime, we'll have special offers, the potential

1:12.4

launch of an audio podcast diary to trace my experience in that PhD, and a whole other podcast series,

1:19.1

so stick around for more information on all of that. First of all, though, an important question,

1:24.6

what's this episode for? Do we really need another introduction episode?

1:28.9

Really, Zach? Well, yes, we do, history friend, because this series has been on a strange

1:34.1

sort of journey, so I wanted to clear up any confusion before we begin this series properly.

1:39.9

You see, in May 2018, we committed something of a whoopsie, when yours truly decided it was

1:46.2

the perfect time to launch this series, even though we were already knee-deep in the Korean

1:51.4

War, and you guys were probably getting enough of my voice anyway.

1:56.9

For that decision, I blame my own tendency to underestimate the workload in front of me.

2:02.0

To cut a long story short, in that run of optimism, I made a lot of promises which later proved impossible to keep.

2:09.0

One of these promises was releasing one 30 years war episode per week alongside an episode of the Korean War.

2:15.8

But we also introduced some aspects of what I plan to do here.

2:20.3

You see, we established that this series is based on a book for God or the Devil,

2:25.4

which you can pre-order on our website,
