Summary
Gretchen was devastated when her husband announced he was divorcing her—in front of all five kids. She knew he meant it because they had always promised their kids that divorce would never be part of their story. From there, things only got worse. Tension was thick, nerves were frayed, and they couldn't take a walk around the neighborhood without fighting and leaving in opposite directions. They tried marriage counseling, but they'd leave fighting so badly they'd have to pull the car over. He decided to stay as roommates until the kids graduated. Then he was gone. One night after another blowup, Gretchen got out of the car at a red light and walked home. She Googled "why does my husband hate me" and finally found hope. Today, her marriage is peaceful, connected and intimate. They take long car rides talking for hours—or sitting in peaceful silence. Her husband is always making her laugh, and divorce is off the table. If you're living like roommates and your husband has one foot out the door, Gretchen's story will show you exactly what she did to find peace and restore intimacy in the middle of a marriage crisis.
