Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen, program note for you. As I said, we're going to

finish up First Timothy today, and we will not be starting Second Timothy next week. In fact,

we won't be starting Second Timothy at all, but we'll instead get you to go back if you're

interested and listen to the episode from a previous version on the show. But the next study is, in fact, going to be on marriage.

With that, 1 Timothy, Chapter 6.

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.

Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers.

Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves.

And this is one of those verses that, of course, was abused by those people who were

supporting slavery in the South and the U.S. because they would say, see, look, slavery is in

the Bible, and Paul didn't even discourage its use. And of course, we've seen that Paul did ask

for Onesabas to be set free from

Philemon. And Paul also asks for a different relationship between master and slave. For the masters,

he says, treat these people as you are treated by your master in heaven. And for the slaves,

he's saying, obey your masters, even when their eyes are not on you, as he says elsewhere,

as serving the Lord and not man. And here he says, even if their eyes are not on you, as he says elsewhere, as serving the

Lord and not man. And here he says, even if they are fellow believers, well, don't slack off because

of that. And in fact, even more so if they are fellow believers, should you consider them worthy
