Good morning. Welcome back to the morning mindset and yeah I realize you may not be listening to this in the morning but that's the intention with which I come to these morning mindsets, is that we all get into a habit of starting out our day with the opportunity, with an intentionality to set our minds in alignment with the truth of God's word that he

0:25.5

reveals to us in the scripture. In these last few episodes we've been talking about

0:30.4

the nature of a proverb. A proverb is a wise saying and it may apply in the

0:38.2

majority of circumstances but doesn't always apply.

0:42.5

And so in order to know how to apply the wisdom of a proverb to the situations that we face

0:48.5

in life, we need to have an overall sense of wisdom. That comes from God. And in Proverbs chapter 4

0:56.1

we've been looking at the benefits of wisdom and what wisdom brings to our skill set,

1:02.4

to our approach to life that enables us to build a life based

1:07.0

on wise choices.

1:09.8

And as we look a little further into Proverbs chapter 4 today, I want to look down in

1:14.9

verses 20 and following. The writer is writing apparently to his son or someone he

1:21.2

sees as a son and he says in verse 20, my son pay attention to what I say.

1:26.7

Turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep within your heart for they are life to those who find them

1:37.0

and health to one's whole body

1:39.2

Now let's stop and think about this for a second, there's some pretty grand promises there, especially if we don't understand the nature of a proverb.

1:47.0

Now, generally speaking, which is how we have to approach a proverb, because they are general in nature. He's saying when you

1:54.9

listen to wise counsel, when you keep it close to you, you are going to find life for yourself.

2:05.0

And what I think he means by life is a good life, an extraordinary way of living.

2:11.0

Because wisdom is guiding your steps. It's guiding your perspective on the world

2:15.8

which in turn affects the decisions that you make. You won't be making foolish decisions

2:21.7

because wisdom is your mindset.

2:24.7

It's what guides you.
