Summary

We trace Paul’s answer to a hard question: why did God give the Law if salvation comes by faith in Christ. We show how the Law acts as a map and a mirror, then move to our adoption, imputed righteousness, the kingdom call, and unity in Jesus. • purpose of the Law as guardian and guide • Law as map for holy living • Law as mirror exposing sin and need • promise to Abraham fulfilled in Christ • adoption as sons and shared inheritance • imputed righteousness and fu...

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the spirit, the primary

0:07.2

spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin

0:12.8

and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.

0:19.8

All right, welcome back to our final day in our study of Galatians

0:23.5

chapter three. We're going to pick it up in verse 19. And so Paul asked a question that he knows

0:29.2

that people are going to ask when we hear that we are saved, not by obedience to the law,

0:34.4

but by faith in Jesus Christ. And here's the question. Why then the law?

0:38.8

And he's going to answer his own question. It was added because of transgressions until the offspring

0:44.0

should come to whom the promise has been made. And it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.

0:51.4

Now, an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one. Is the law then contrary to the

0:57.9

promises of God? Certainly not. For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness

1:04.9

would indeed be by the law. But the scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might

1:14.3

be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law,

1:21.1

imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then the law was our guardian,

1:27.3

literally in Greek, that means babysitter.

1:29.2

So the law was our babysitter until Christ came in order that we might be justified by faith.

1:36.0

But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian or babysitter. For in Christ Jesus,

1:43.0

you are all sons of God through faith. For as many of you as were

1:47.8

baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither slave nor free,

1:55.8

there is no male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you are Christ, then you are Abraham's

2:04.8

offspring, heir according to promise. So why the law? Well, the law, and by the law, what Paul means

2:12.9

here, he basically means the Old Testament, the law, the prophets, the writings. So why?
