Summary

In this episode of Sisters Sidebar, Barb McQuade and Kimberly Atkins Stohr answer your questions on everything from nationwide injunctions and the mifepristone ruling to the case against Luigi Mangione, and more. They discuss whether universal injunctions are still allowed after recent Supreme Court decisions, Congress’s limited power over state redistricting and apportionment under the Voting Rights Act, the suppression of evidence in the Luigi Mangione trial, Trump’s audit immunity, whether the statute of limitations is truly a “get out of jail free” card, how the Calais decision shifted Voting Rights Act claims from effect to intent, and if the current Supreme Court justices get along behind the scenes.

So let's get started. Barb, I'm going to start with you with a question from Lindy.

1:01.2

Hello, sisters. Love the shows. This is Lindy from the Chicago suburbs. My question reflects my confusion about the Fifth Circuit Court's ruling requiring an in-person visit to a health

care provider to obtain Methapristone and the Supreme Court's temporary stay of that ruling. I thought an earlier

1:13.4

Supreme Court ruling had limited the lower court's power to issue nationwide injunctions. Could you

1:19.5

explain how all this fits together? Thank you. Lindsay, that is such a good question. In fact, when

1:25.3

this decision came down, I had the same question myself,

1:28.4

which is, wait a minute, I thought the Supreme Court has struck down universal or nationwide injunctions.
