Newshorror, Mandy Stad Miller, myself, went to see the fireworks show from what was probably the best possible vantage point, courtesy of our friends at the NYPD.

The prime viewing spot for the fireworks. Supposed to be at 34th Street on the FDR. Well, it was closed for the day, so people get up there. They start packing in during the midday heat, just to shoulder up and get a spot where they could.

Well, those were people who unfortunately didn't know anybody.

See, we showed up around 820. Uniformed officers protected the whole area,

several blocks west of the river along the 2nd Avenue.

We were allowed through by officers, made ourselves comfortable along the very rail of the East River,

which is on the ground below that coveted spot.

About 50, maybe 100 feet closer to the river, so we made ourselves really comfortable there.

Spacious barricaded areas are for citizens of the first order,

which is, I'm sorry, not sorry, what we are.

And we watched a 25-minute show in the company of Grysner O'Neill and his family,

many other very important people,

members of the NYPD wish to recognize the residents of New York who contribute

in a significant way towards the ever-evolving

masterwork of the Western world that is the modern equivalent of the capital of the Roman Empire,
