πŸ“œ TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 4:2-9

for I give you good precepts;
    do not forsake my teaching.
When I was a son with my father,
    tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,
he taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words;
    keep my commandments, and live.
Get wisdom; get insight;
    do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
    love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
    and whatever you get, get insight.
Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;
    she will honor you if you embrace her.
She will place on your head a graceful garland;
    she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”

Welcome. I'm glad you are taking the time to set your thinking in a certain direction for the day.

You're not being random about your life.

0:16.5

You're not just floating and being lazy.

0:19.0

You're being intentional.

0:20.4

Way to go.

0:21.3

That's what we have to do as followers of Jesus Christ. We have to take

0:25.6

control of this thing we call our mind and make sure that it is our servant, the

0:30.5

servant of Christ every day in the way that we live, the way that we think.

0:35.0

Today I want to start a new kind of a little series talking about the Proverbs.

0:42.0

You know I know many of us love the Proverbs. It's an easy place to go to

0:47.8

grab a quick bite of wisdom for the day that can help us think rightly about certain situations, help us know wisdom to

0:56.2

apply to our lives to the situations and circumstances that we face. And I

1:01.4

thought it would be good to start out talking about the purpose in nature of a proverb.

1:07.0

There were a few episodes a while back where I talked about this saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

1:17.1

Now that's a cliche and I actually made a case against that cliche if you want to go back and listen to those,

1:24.0

I'm not exactly sure what episodes those are,

1:26.0

but you can go back and find those.

1:28.0

But the point I'm making today is that that is an example of a proverb. It is a wise saying that

1:38.6

does have some truth to it. In fact, some very broad truth to it. That's generally what a

1:45.0

proverb is. It's a truthful statement that applies in most cases. But that also

1:51.9

means it doesn't apply in some cases and I think that is something
