The neighbourhood is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, with easy access to park, schools,

and the bustling shops and cafes along Queen Street East.

But one fateful morning in November of 2003, the serenity of Woodfield

Avenue was shattered by a desperate 911 call. The voice on the other end of the line was

urgent as they reported that a child was unresponsive. Paramedics and police rushed to the home,

unaware that they were stepping into a case that would send shockwaves through Ontario's child welfare system.

What they would uncover inside that modest home would not only raise questions about the safeguards in place for vulnerable children,

but it would also lead to sweeping reforms. James.

Jeffrey Baldwin hadn't had the best start in life. Born on the 20th of January, 1997 in Toronto,

he entered the world facing challenges most children never would. Developmentally delayed and

vulnerable, Geoffrey's life was shaped by instability from the very beginning. His teenage parents,

Yvonne Kidman and Richard Baldwin, struggled with their own demons. Yvonne was only

16 years old when she gave birth to her first child, a baby girl she named Sarah. But motherhood

was short-lived. Sarah was taken from Yvonne's care, after she was found left alone in a crib,

while Yvonne fought Richard outside on the street.
