Known for its rural charm and close-knit community, the area has deep historical roots, with Middleton itself dating back to the 12th century when monks established a monastery there.

Over time, the region developed into a thriving market town,

blending its agricultural heritage with modern growth. Today, Middleton is best known for its

famous Jameson Distillery, drawing visitors from around the world to experience Ireland's

rich whiskey making tradition. The town in its surrounding areas, including Bally Edmund, have maintained a strong

sense of community, a place where neighbours know each other by name and local events bring people

together. But in the winter of 2005, the people of Bally Edmund united in a way they never had before.

The entire community came together, braving the cold to search for a missing boy.

Robert Hollahan was the kind of boy who brought warmth into any room that he entered.

At just 11 years old, he had an energy that was infectious.

His home was nestled along Fermoy Road in Bally Edmund, Middleton, a rural area where everyone knew each other, and Robert thrived in the

familiarity of it all. He was the eldest child of Mark and Magella Hollohan, a big brother to Emma

eight years old and Harry, four years old. It was a role that Robert took seriously, as much as an

11-year-old boy could. Mark was a hard-working builder who put in long hours to

provide for the family, while Magella had grown up in the community and worked as a dental nurse.

As for Robert, he was a familiar side around Middleton. He was an outdoorsy child, happiest when he was

out in the fresh air, cycling with his friends, roller-blearing

until the sun dipped behind the hills or kicking a football around the yard. He was also a talented

athlete, especially in football and hurling, and he beamed with pride when he won a medal for the under-11
