We are here, as you know, in New York, right in Manhattan. It is crazy and I love it. In light of what's going on right now, just in the

Meekham household, I wanted to talk a little bit about planned spontaneity and essentially what has happened with us as it relates to our budget.

First of all, this city is insanely expensive. I am suffering from serious

sticker shock. We are getting used to it, but it is truly crazy. And then, when you couple that with the fact that we are moving not

permanently but for three months we're going to be living up here and we've got a lot of settling in to do.

And I'll probably talk about that in a separate podcast altogether.

But what I wanted to talk about today was our planned spontaneity.

And the idea that we're going to be here and we're going to see something

and we're going to want to do it. And we can't plan ahead. And budgeting, as you know, is all

about looking forward, looking ahead, and making sure your money is set up for that thing.

So if you see a big vacation off in your future, you just throw money toward that future

at the vacation specifically so that when you get to that

point in time where the vacation is there the money is sitting there waiting for you.

We did that with New York, knowing New York would be expensive, although still it's far more expensive than even I had thought.

But knowing it would be expensive, we knew we needed to have a lot of slushy, kind of squishy money.

And so we had one big category called New York

where we've been saving for it like we would be saving for a vacation even though we

just be living here we would knew we knew we would be doing a lot of very vacationy type things.

So we threw a bunch of money forward to New York over the last year, and now we're here.

And the money's here with us. It's like we've been wiring ourselves money, our New York
