Coming up, a minister insists the government will not itself bring forward an assisted dying bill if the current one fails.

I've enough problems getting the government's programme through at the moment, let alone trying to deal with this bill.

Also, as MPs look at the impact of the latest rise in the state pension age,

a former forklift truck driver describes the hardship of working till later in life.

We worked outside all the time and you get aches and pains

and I had to feel myself full of painkillers before I went for work for seven and a half years.

And with defections from the Conservatives' Older Fashion,

one former switcher describes the cost to personal relationships, especially

with local party workers. My worst feeling was that I had let them down and that of course was true.

But first, there was clear irritation among some peers at the claim that the assisted

dying bill could eventually be made law by leapfrogging opposition to it in the House of Lords.

Earlier this week, one of the bill's sponsors, Labour's Lord Faulkner, said he now reckoned it was likely to fail in this session of Parliament

because of how long it was taking to pass through the House.

He suggested it could therefore be brought back in the next session

under what's known as the Parliament Act.

That prevents unelected peers blocking legislation

that's been passed by the elected House of Commons.

The bill would allow terminally ill adults in England and Wales

to get help to end their lives.
