We are studying the Vedantasara and we have had a couple of classes.

So we are on text number five and going on text number 6.

I just read out text number 5 and the translation.

Tatranubandho namah, adikari, vishaya,

Sambbandha, Preojanani.

The preliminaries, the four preliminaries of Vedantha are the qualified or the competent student, number one, Adikari. Number two, the subject matter, vishaya.

Number three, Sambanda, its connection with the text.

The subject matter and the text. How are they connected?

And Prajana, what's the point of this study?

So that's how classically, all classical, classical Sanskrit texts begin.

At the beginning, you would expect these four to be pointed out.

We would like to know who is qualified to read this text,

who is, and then what is the subject matter of the text, what are we studying, and then the relationship

of the text with the subject matter. That's a technical thing we'll see later. And then the fourth one is what's the use of this?

What do we get out of this kind of study?

So that is something that is true across the board.

Whenever you study such texts, it will be pointed out.
