In late June of 2018, 12 boys and their 25-year-old assistant soccer coach in Thailand

entered the national cave system to explore the caves as a fun

adventure at the end of their training session. But not long after they entered the cave,

monsoon rains flooded the cave passage behind them, and they trapped the boys deep inside.

The boys retreated further and further into the cave to escape the rising water, and they

finally found a small

ledge to climb up on. They were over two miles inside the cave, in the dark, with no food,

no communication, and no way out. When the boys didn't come home, their parents reported

them missing. Their bikes and soccer gear were found outside the cave entrance. Thailand's version of the Navy SEALs, along with engineers, police, volunteers from all over the world, descended on that site, hoping that they could find those boys before it was too late.

An elite team of British cave divers were flown in.

Everyone searched for nine days to no avail.

Then on July 2nd, nine days after they'd gone missing, the British divers happened on an air pocket deep in the cave system. When they

shined their flashlight around the cave, they saw 12 boys and their coach sitting on the ledge.

They were scared. They hadn't eaten, but they were alive.

Finding them was only half the battle. Now they had to get them out. For three days,

one of the most dramatic and daring rescues in history took place. Each boy was mildly

sedated to prevent panicking and then given a diving mask and guided by two divers through the underwater

passages. 13 people were brought out one by one. All 13 survived. Sadly, one man, a member of the Thai
