House Speaker Mike Johnson is calling on the Secret Service Director to resign after an assassination attempt on former

President Donald Trump during his Pennsylvania campaign rally Saturday.

It was inexcusable. Obviously there were security lapses. You don't have to be a special ops expert to understand that.

That's Johnson on Fox News earlier today. Secret service director Kimberly Cheetel told

CNN that the agency was quote solely responsible for security at the

rally but in a prior interview with ABC News she said local law enforcement was

responsible for securing the building where a 20 year old gunman opened fire.

Speaker Johnson says he's setting up a new bipartisan task force to investigate the

assassination attempt.

Cheetel has said the agency will quote,

participate fully in an independent review

ordered by President Joe Biden

and will work with Congress on quote,

any oversight action.

President Joe Biden lashed out at some House Democrats on a tense call last weekend.

Two sources familiar with the calls say things got contentious when Colorado Congressman

Jason Crow told Biden that voters are concerned about his rigor and strength.

Biden pushed back and at one point told Crow quote, I don't want to hear that crap and said he could

walk away from him if he wants.

Biden said on the call he knows Crow, a former Army Ranger,

is a bronze-star recipient but said he, quote,
