Congressional leaders return to Capitol Hill in search of a deal to avert a shutdown by midnight Friday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson held a key meeting with GOP lawmakers critical to advancing any funding deal.

This comes after the stopgap measure that Johnson negotiated to keep the government funded,

collapsed due to President-elect Donald Trump's opposition.

The bipartisan bill included nearly $100 billion in disaster aid, economic aid for farmers,

lawmakers' first pay raise since 2009, and other provisions Trump saw as Democratic priorities.

But House Democrats made clear they are not willing to bend to Republican

demands. Here's House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries earlier today. House Democrats are going

to continue to fight for families, farmers, and the future of working class Americans.

And in order to do that, the best path forward is the bipartisan agreement that we negotiated.
