Hi from CNN. This is Madeline Thompson with the five things you need to know for Tuesday,

November 12th. Israel has opened up an additional crossing to allow aid trucks into Gaza,

just in time to meet a deadline set by the U.S. Last month, President Joe Biden's administration

sent a letter to the Israeli government, demanding

it act to improve the situation within 30 days or risk violating U.S. laws, suggesting U.S.

military aid could be in jeopardy.

Sources say there's broad agreement in the administration that Israel must do more on

the humanitarian assistance front, but no formal policy change announcement is expected

today. Biden is meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the White House today,

but it's unclear if Biden is planning to bring up the aid deadline. We'll have more on this in

our 6 p.m. episode. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken heads to Brussels today as concerns rise

among European officials about some of President-elect Donald Trump's plans.

Leaders in Europe are bracing for possible moves from Trump on U.S. support for Ukraine,

NATO, and tariffs.

After Trump's win last week, leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron pledged a,

quote, more united, stronger and more sovereign Europe.

There has been a strategic awakening that we must embrace as Europeans.

We cannot entrust our security to the Americans forever.

I believe it's also important to send the message that we are now providers of security solutions.

The State Department says Blinken will meet with NATO and EU counterparts Wednesday to discuss the war in Ukraine.
