Hello there, my name is Tyler Griffin and this is Scripture Study Insights by Scripture Central.

0:06.0

Today, Third Nephi, chapters 1 through 7.

0:10.0

I want to introduce these chapters today with one lifelong learning overlay perspective that I learned from a good friend and colleague named Rob Eaton. He shared this

0:26.3

concept of his wife and him planting some apple trees. And they were all excited that

0:35.1

first spring that they saw many, many blossoms appear on those

0:40.8

trees. And they didn't realize that leaving all of those blossoms in place would lead to

0:48.4

a lot of fruit, but all of the fruit would be small and not quite as sweet or as flavorful as it otherwise

0:57.0

could have been had they done some thinning. That principle, when it applies to Scripture

1:05.0

study, is powerful because you look at these chapters, chapter 1 through 7 in 3rd Nephi, and there

1:13.6

are a thousand blossoms, all of which can produce fruit. And the book Mormon and the Bible

1:22.0

are such that they have the capacity to be fruit-bearing. The problem comes when we as teachers or leaders

1:34.4

or as parents try to cover everything and try to have all of those fruit blossoms produce fruit. It ends up with a whole bunch

1:48.7

of smaller, smaller fruits. So the principle here is to prayerfully as you're teaching or leading

2:00.2

or parenting or ministering or doing missionary work is not to try

2:07.7

to teach every possible principle that you could in a block of scripture. It just doesn't

2:14.2

work well and you end up doing a hundred things kind of porty as opposed

2:22.3

to reading all of the chapters that are available prayerfully considering what might these

2:31.4

students or these children or this friend or this colleague or this companion, whatever

2:37.9

it may be in your situation, what principles here would be the most beneficial or the most

2:46.8

helpful, the most fruitful, if you will, in helping connect this group of people or this

2:55.0

individual with the Savior and help them to become a lifelong covenantally connected individual

3:04.9

with the Lord, which means you have to make some decisions. You might have to
