Welcome to How Leaders Lead. I'm Kula Callahan, here to bring you another edition of three more

0:08.5

questions with David Novak. David, we've got a fun one today. How you doing? Are you excited about it?

0:13.5

Am I ever not excited talking about our guest? Of course I have. And today we're going to dive into

0:19.0

my conversation with Jim Fish, the CEO of

0:21.5

waste management.

0:23.3

You know, Jim is a very accomplished leader.

0:26.4

The company has performed very well, and I just love the fact that he really believes in

0:31.0

putting his people first and building a strong culture that will drive results.

0:36.3

0:56.4

their job more difficult. And, you know, Jim really walks a talk on that. He really does. Well,

1:17.2

I'm excited to dive into our questions for today. Let's get going. Question number one. Early in the episode, Jim shares that leadership doesn't start with your

1:30.8

career or your company. It starts in your formative years. And for most people, they get their

1:36.4

leadership instincts from their parents. David, you ask every guest this question, but I've

1:42.1

never asked you on our show. So I want to hear from you today.

1:45.6

What's a story from your childhood that shaped the way you lead today? Well, when I was a kid,

1:50.6

my dad was a government surveyor, and we lived in 23 states by the time I was in the seventh grade.
