Welcome to How Leaders Lead. I'm Kula Callahan here to bring you another edition of three more

questions with David Novak. David, I am so excited about this episode because I absolutely adore the guest.

Her name is Bonnie Hill. And this episode just felt like I was getting a giant hug.

Not only is she's so kind and compassionate, but she is so wise and her leadership insights are so powerful.

Well, Bonnie is a real class act. I mean, she's worked for president. She's served on countless big boards.

She started her own company. and she started from nothing.

I mean, she literally started out as an administrative assistant and worked her way up the ladder to all the things that I just talked about.

And I had the incredible opportunity of having Bonnie serve on our young board of directors where she was a great

advisor and a great owner of our company. Well, she has an amazing story and I'm so inspired by the

way that she has really harnessed the hard thing she's been through in life to unlock her full

growth and potential. And I think even though your story might be different from Bonnies,

there's certainly so much that we can learn from how she has crafted her life and really

use things that were difficult to see the success that she's experienced in her life. So I'm

excited to dive into today's three more questions. Let's get going.

Absolutely. Let's do it, Kula.

Question number one. Like you said, I too am just blown away by Bonnie's story. Her father left

the day she was born. Her mother became an alcoholic. She and her mother were on welfare

for a number of years. And there were times where she and her mother were actually homeless.

But she didn't let that hold her back or define her. David, you talk a lot about how you succeeded,

not in spite of your upbringing, but because of it. What advice do you have for leaders who might not

have been handed a silver spoon? Well, I think there's a lot you can learn from your upbringing.

You can learn the power of having a tremendous work ethic, which I learned from my dad.
