Welcome to Buckets, episode 3.

If you didn't know already, I'm a huge Lakers fan.

They're my favorite team.

But what does that mean exactly?

What do we root for when we're rooting for our favorite squads?

To me it's a combination of four things,

the city, the mascot, the colors, and the players.

Us fans can usually survive a single change to one of these four.

Same city, different mascot, same colors, same players.

That's like when the New Orleans Hornets became the pelicans. That was fine. Fans stuck around. What

about same city, same mascot, different colors same players? That's good as well. The calves shifted

from burnt orange and

royal blue to wine and gold. No harm, no foul.

Okay, what about same cities, same mascot, same colors, different players?

That happens all the time.

I didn't stop being a Laker fan when Shaq left to Miami.

Different City, same mascot, same colors, same players. Hmm, that's a tougher pill to swallow.

I don't know if there are any Memphis Grizzlies fans in Vancouver.

So it seems like City is number one and players are last because they come and go so often.

And fans are supposed to root for their team regardless.

So let's examine the other two. What's more important?
