Fun Italian fact. Italy is Europe's fourth largest economy and now they've joined the United States,

Great Britain and France. And saying, you know what, the old parties that have been running

everything forever, screw it. Let's try something completely different. For some reason, I'm not

exactly sure why we're all doing this, but we're all doing it. Right, exactly what it means and where

it might be headed is anybody's guess, but no better person asked than Michael Bernbaum, who does a

lot of reporting for the Washington Post in Europe is their Brussels bureau chief. And as I

understand it is reporting from Rome this morning, Mr. Bernbaum, how are you, sir? I'm good.

Thanks so much for having me, Jack and Joe. It's our pleasure. So it's safe to say this seems

to be part of the same tide that brought us Donald J. Trump and Brexit. Well, there's definitely an

anti-establishment wave here. The old parties really were just trounced yesterday evening

in the Italian elections. The center left, which has been ruling Italy for the last five years,

I mean, collapsed, collapsed in half from a couple of years back. And the center right,

the Silvio Berlusconi Center right party had hoped to ride this election into the Prime Minister's

office, but they lost out to a much further right party that's super anti-migrant and again,

very anti-establishment. I understand the outsider five star movement did well,

is that based on their Amazon.com reviews or what? What's the five star movement?

Well, the five star movement is a nine-year-old political party was founded by a

caustic comedian named Bepe Grillo. And he just said that the old political parties in Italy

weren't serving the citizens, that they were out of touch with voters. They were in it really for

their own enrichment. And they have this interesting system where their leadership

consults with party membership on basically every single decision on an online platform. They say
