Summary

I think we can all agree that gaslighting is the wooooorst. When you share a vulnerable or tough experience with someone and they respond in a way that makes you feel like you’re being dramatic and overreacting it really hurts. In this episode I cover the many ways that people gaslight one another, where the term comes from, why people engage in gaslighting, how to respond when someone is gaslighting you, and of course what to do if you realize that you’ve gaslighted someone else. I also share a few examples of times that I have been racially gaslighted, oof. If you need a little validation you’ll find it here. Don’t worry you’re not losing your mind, you’re being gaslighted.

Solidarity for Palestine Action Items:

  1. Email your reps and tell them to end U.S. complicity in Israel’s abuses of Palestinians.
  2. Donate to provide emergency aid to Palestinians
  3. Tell someone you love what you’ve learned about Palestine and the extreme power imbalance, created directly by U.S. aid, that has displaced and killed hundreds of Palestinians this week. The Israeli government is spreading misinformation about their aggressions, we have to act now.

0:46.5

journey with you. Hello, First Name Basis fam. I am so glad you are here. Today we are going to be talking about

0:57.8

gaslighting. Now, I don't know about you, but I have been gaslighted many, many times, especially if I'm

1:06.2

talking about something difficult or something that goes against the status quo. Now we're going to get into all

1:13.0

of that, but before we do, I have to share my solidarity with the Palestinians. I'm sure you've heard

1:19.9

of what's going on in Israel and Palestine right now, and it is absolutely atrocious. The Israeli

1:25.8

government is bombing the Palestinians and they have

1:29.1

killed many, many civilians, so many of them being children. And the thing is, if you're in the

1:37.0

United States, your tax dollars are going to support the actions of the Israeli government.

1:47.4

We are helping to fund these atrocities, and it has to stop. So I'm going to leave two links in the show notes for you so that you can take

1:53.3

action on this today. The first is going to be a link where you can email your representatives

1:59.0

to tell them to end U.S. complicity in Israel's abuses

2:03.6

of Palestinians. And the second one is going to be a donation link where you can donate to provide

2:09.5

emergency aid to Palestinians. The thing is, remember when we talk about donations, we're not

2:16.0

thinking of them as charity. We are thinking of them

2:19.5

as redistributing our resources because the systems that are in place have given us

2:25.1

opportunities and resources that other people don't have access to. So we are going to
