从前，天上的仙女三圣母和人间的一个书生相爱了，他们有了自己的孩子，沉香。三圣母的哥哥二郎神知道这件事以后非常生气，把妹妹压在了华山底下，抢走了沉香。三圣母在危难之际，将一盏神奇的宝莲灯交给自己的丈夫，以保佑他们父子躲避二郎神的追杀。
