Summary

To get you excited about Saturday night's Save the 10,000 with Des and Kara, this episode is all about Kara's history with the event. She talks about 10,000m legends Lynn Jennings and Billy Mills and how they inspired her to want to be an Olympian. She gives the story of how she WALKED in her very first 10,000 on the track, seemingly swearing off the event for good.

She details coming back to the distance at later time and surprising herself in her 2nd attempt at the distance. Then of course, she shares the play-by-play on her historic medal in the 10,000 at Osaka in 2007 that would change her running life forever.

This episode is here to remind you why the 10,000 is worth saving. We hope you enjoy.

If you are in Southern California on Saturday night (May 3rd), then go see the event in person at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. Admission is free. Otherwise, you can stream for free on RunnerSpace. The men's race starts at 8 pm PST, and the women's race closes the night at 8:45 pm.

Thank you also to all of the sponsors for the event: BioBrace, Old Spice, Secret, The Sport Specialist, Lever Movement, Pacers Running, and of course Brooks Running. Please show those sponsors some love!

You did it right.

0:37.3

We're at race week.

0:39.7

Do you feel like you're, you've been building up for a race? I feel nervous, one and a why.

0:46.5

Yeah. If it's like, I feel nervous because I just want these athletes to have such a good time.

0:52.1

Yeah. And like I can't, I just like I can only control the

0:55.2

controllables. I can't control how they race. Like I couldn't control how you is raced at Boston.

0:59.4

I couldn't control when Adam was racing. Um, but I'm like, I want us to know we did everything we

1:04.9

could to ensure a good time was had by all. And I just feel like, oh, man, like, we don't really know what we're doing.

1:12.4

We're, like, shooting for the stars here. And I just hope that the athletes aren't like, why the

hell did I go to say the 10,000? I think, I mean, I totally get where you're coming from.

1:22.9

I think that the nerves are high. It does feel like you can only do what you can do for sure. And we've talked

1:27.7

about that a lot, which I think we're going to put in so much effort, energy, and we've already
