I'm a pilot for a major U.S. airline can answer a couple of questions that came up Monday morning.

An advanced degree is not required to become an airline pilot, but the vast majority of pilots have a degree.

Roughly 10% of commercial airline pilots are either military, retired, or part-time guard or reserve.
