Welcome to the News and Why It Matters. I am Sarah Gonzalez. It is Friday Eve and we've got

the winds where we can get them at this point with the state of the country that we're in.

And this morning, the Supreme Court struck down a New York gun control law that required people to

show proper cause to get a license to carry a concealed handgun outside the home, which I felt like

the proper cause was just the second amendment. It was weird that they were even insisting upon

this because it seems when you look at it, it's like, no, that's just a blatant violation of the

second amendment. Well, at least this time, the Supreme Court agreed, well, some of them, it was

6'3", Thomas delivered the opinion of the court in which Roberts, Alito, Gorsuch,

Kavanaugh, Ann Barrett, of course, joined. And so, you know, who filed the dissent, Breyer filed

the dissenting opinion in which Sotomayor and Kagan joined. Thomas wrote in this, the constitutional

right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not, quote, a second class right subject to an

entirely different body of rules than the other bill of rights guarantees. The exercise of other

constitutional rights does not require individuals to demonstrate to government officers some special

need. The second amendment right to carry arms in public for self-defense is no different. New

York's proper cause requirement violates the 14th amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens

with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bear arms in public.
