0:52.7	My fact is that one of the main reasons people failed to get into the US Army in the First
0:57.2	World War was because the military required recruits to have a minimum of six teeth.
1:05.6	And this was a problem.
1:08.1	So this is from a book called Making the American Mouth by Elissa Picard, which is a great

1:16.5	And it's all about problems of dentistry.
1:19.7	And it turns out that the famously great American teeth were not always that great.
1:24.0	And in the First World War, you needed good teeth because you had to eat horrible, tough
1:28.3	military rations.
1:29.8	And you had to have three pairs of decent opposing teeth.
1:35.7	And one in ten recruits failed because of that.
1:39.1	This is the two million people who were rejected from the Army.
1:41.4	That was the main reason.
