Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. What would our lives be like if we sucked all the marrow out of life?

What I mean by this is living life to the fullest capacity that we're able to live and wherever we're

at today really embracing life more richly and more bully so that when we take our last breath of life, we say that was a good life.

Do you know where that phrase comes from, suck all the marrow out of life? You may have heard

it from the movie Dead Pollard Society with Robin Williams because he quotes it in the movie.

And if you've never seen this movie, I would highly recommend.

But you rent it and take a look at it because it has a lot of deep wisdom in it, things that we teach here in the happiness

podcast. The main premise of the Dead Poets Society is of these young men who had a boarding school preparing themselves to make a difference in the world because they have privilege and the ability to do well in life, are encouraged, are taught by Robin Williams to live life well now

instead of thinking that by reaching certain levels of goals in their life that

they'll find happiness there.

But this quote actually comes from Henry David Thoreau

in his beautiful book, Walden, which I've quoted many times throughout this podcast.

He spent two years in the woods living by a lake, Walden Lake,

in order to experience life to his fullest, not achieve, not make money, but just to live well, simply, but

And out of this came his beautiful book Walden. He writes, I went to the woods because I wish to

live deliberately to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach
