Jesse spoke to me during the summer from his home in Tacoma, Washington.

Good. I read that you grew up in the Bay Area. San Rafael, California.

For people that aren't familiar with that, what's the character of San Rafael as compared to, say, Oakland or San Francisco? It's totally suburban compared to that. But San Rafael's cool because you're super close to all those places.

So I grew up going out there and hanging out like most of my youth, because you could always

find something better to do in like Oakland or San Francisco.

Then San Rafael.

What line of work were your parents in?

My dad is kind of like an education administrator and like educator.

But at the time he was the head, he was kind of like running a school um but he also

teaches uh at universities he teaches at sonoma state and um this other school called dominican college

um and my mom when i was growing up most of the time was a ballet teacher and has now actually

become a nurse practitioner since then that probably is kind of inspiring as her son to see her

go from one career into a completely different career like the idea that you can totally change your trajectory

if you want to.

It gives me hope in me trying to be a musician currently, you know, and I kind of always

think about that. It's like, yeah, you know, I don't know if I'm 50 and this isn't viable
