Hello and welcome to episode 296 of The Mindful Kind podcast.

In this episode, you'll learn about some practical strategies to help you be more optimistic during difficult times.

To understand optimism a little more, be sure to check out episode 114 of The Mindful Kind, "Outlooks on Life: Optimism."

Please keep in mind that you don't have to feel happy in order to be optimistic!

Below are three strategies to help you be more optimistic during difficult times:

1: Identify the loudest negative thought and gently challenge it (then focus your attention on a more optimistic thought)

2: Practice gratitude or observing your strengths during difficult times

3: Take empowered action. Choose one small thing you can do to help make the difficult situation a little better

Thank you so much for listening and I hope you have a wonderful week, Mindful Kind.

Hello and welcome to the Mindful Kind podcast. I'm your host, Rachel Cable, author of the

Hello and welcome to episode 296 of the Mindful Kind podcast. Okay, so on this episode I thought

0:31.4

I'd talk about difficult situations and how to try and be more optimistic about them.

0:36.7

I'll be sharing some practical strategies that you can try,

0:39.4

but first I thought I'd explain why this can be a really important thing to try to do sometimes.

0:45.4

So a few weeks ago, I was asked to speak at an online event about motivation and optimism,

0:51.1

and during my research, I actually revisited episode 114 of the Mindful Kind podcast called

0:57.3

Outlooks on Life, Optimism. In that episode, I mentioned that optimism has several pros and cons,

1:16.8

hope to get a second dog. And now all of those things have happened, which made me stop and

1:22.2

think about the journey I've been on over the last few years and reminded me to practice

1:26.8

gratitude for it all. So I do recommend

1:29.8

that you go back to that episode number 114 to learn a little bit more about optimism. But what I want

1:36.3

to talk about on this episode is how optimism can be cultivated because I think it is something that

1:41.5

you can learn about and practice. Now, I think it can be more difficult to put into practice during tough times,

1:48.0

which is why I recommend experimenting with the strategies I'll be sharing on a regular basis,

1:54.0

not just when you're having a really challenging day.

1:56.8

Think of practicing optimism like playing chess.
