Summary

In this video, I talk about the danger of anti-intellectualism, which can keep you from understanding your Bible and from living a vibrant Christian life. I also discuss the history of anti-intellectualism, and how it has led to several false movements and cults throughout Christian history. I also respond to some of the comments left under the videos of my current series that questions the concept of modern deliverance ministry from a biblical lens. ------------------------------------------------------------------This video is sponsored by:A'DELElevate your skincare routine with A'del's toxin-free cosmetics.Experience the difference in quality and purity.Go to www.adelnaturalcosmetics.com for more information.Use my code: ALISASUMMITGive your kids a stronger foundation to embrace a biblical worldview.Go to www.summit.org for more informationUse my code: ALISA25--------------------------------------------------------------------To Purchase the new CD, “Beauty from the Ash”, go to www.alisachilders.com/musicThere you can get the CD, backing tracks, string charts, rhythm charts and stems.Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/alisachildersTo order “Another Gospel”: www.alisachilders.com/another-gospel/To order “Live Your Truth": www.alisachilders.com/live-your-truth-and-other-lies/To order “The Deconstruction of Christianity”: https://alisachilders.com/the-deconstruction-of-christianity/For Alisa's Merch: https://alisachilders.creator-spring.comTo see what gear Alisa uses to record her podcast, go to:https://kit.co/alisachildersPotential Sponsors: https://alisachilders.com/sponsor-request-form/Product links are affiliate links which means if you buy something we'll receive a small commission.

People become very suggestible in certain environments. I've been in meetings where, for example,

0:07.3

the person on the stage, this is something that actually happened to me. The person on the stage

0:11.9

blew on the crowd, and there was already an atmosphere of people letting their guard down,

0:18.7

being manipulated by long worship times with music. You're kind of

0:22.0

tired. You're suggestible. And he blew on the crowd. And I was in the back row on the aisle.

0:28.1

And one by one, row after row after row was quote unquote slain in the spirit. They were falling down.

0:36.5

And I remember back then, this was,

0:38.3

I was a young adult. And I said, Lord, if this is of you, I want this. If you want to touch me in the

0:44.3

way that you're touching people, I'm open and I want to, but I'm not going to fake it. And so one by one,

0:50.7

the rows went and then my entire row fell, and I was the only person standing.

0:55.3

I say that because if something seems to work, it could be working because people are highly

1:00.8

suggestible and manipulatable.

Well, hey, everyone. Welcome to the show. This is the Elisa Childers podcast. I'm Elisa Childers. And it's my goal here to equip Christians to identify the core beliefs of historic Christianity, discern its counterfeits and proclaim the gospel with clarity, kindness, and truth. And today's episode is all about discernment. It's about the way that we evaluate certain beliefs or even teachings that we might encounter online,

1:37.3

videos that we might see on YouTube. And what I see in the church, which is an attitude of anti-intellectualism, which is, I think,

1:47.0

ravaging the church because it's really preventing us from being able to discern properly.

1:52.0

And so even in the name of discernment, in the name of wanting to stay on track with

1:58.8

doctrine, I see a lot of people sliding off of cliffs because they're

2:04.2

following the wrong sorts of standards that they're supposed to be using to evaluate teaching

2:10.1

and they're evaluating things erroneously in an unbiblical way. And I don't even know if they

2:15.8

realize it. So I have a heavy burden,

2:17.9

I think, with this particular episode. And I want to give some context around where this is all

2:23.8

coming from. So if you've been following along with the podcast, you know we're in the middle
