On the heels of the Doris Day story from yesterday, I wanted to take this opportunity and give you a little bit of a follow-up about Doris's

son, Terry Melcher, and the Manson family. It turns out Hollywood is a very small town. Let's go,

go, go, and investigate.

I do want to take us back to the day everything really

did change in Hollywood, a little bit before that, actually. We're going to go ahead and talk about

Sweet Doris Day, who was in her swimming pool in August, 1969, when she heard about the horrific

murders of Sharon Tate, J. C.ing, Abigail Fulger, Voitek

Farkowski, and Steve Parent at 150 CLO Drive. As soon as Doris Day hears the address, she

stopped swimming because she knows that that is the home that her son, Terry Melcher, and his girlfriend, Candice Bergen, had lived in.

They had moved out of that home on Cello to go live at Doris's Beach House in Malibu, not too long before this.

Soon after, they moved to Doris's Beach House. Terry Melcher and Candice Bergen split up

after several years together. I think they were together about six years. Doris Day and her son,

Terry, were horrified, of course, when the police told them that according to Susan Atkins,

one of the killers, that the Manson them that according to Susan Atkins, one of the killers,

that the Manson family had gone to that Cello Drive house looking for Terry Melcher specifically.

When the family shows up and Terry Melcher is not there,

they just went ahead and decided to butcher who was in the

house at the time. This was not a random attack. Terry Melcher, of course, had met Charlie Manson before

due to his job as a music producer at Columbia Records. Terry Melcher was the hip guy at Columbia. He wasn't square.
