Summary

In today's episode, I interview my Pastor of the last 8 years! We talk about how he shepherded my family through the spiritual abuse and church hurt that left us nervous about attending church. We also discuss how he handled the choppy cultural waters of 2020 that gave us a global pandemic and racial unrest. He also shares some principles that help keep other pastors under his leadership on track theologically, and how to build healthy church environments. ------------------------------------------------------------------This video is sponsored by:SEVEN WEEKS COFFEETaste the Coffee that is Saving Lives.Go to www.sevenweekscoffee.com (http://www.sevenweekscoffee.com/) for more information.Use my code: ALISAFOUNDATION WORLDVIEWFoundation Worldview creates curriculum series that will empower your child to thinkBiblically in a deceptive world. Go to www.foundationworldview.com (http://www.foundationworldview.com/) for more information! Use my code: ALISASUMMITGive your kids a stronger foundation to embrace a biblical worldview.Go to www.summit.org (http://www.summit.org/) for more informationUse my code: ALISA25GOOD RANCHERSGood Meat DeliveredGo to www.goodranchers.com/alisa (http://www.goodranchers.com/alisa) for more information.Use my code: ALISA--------------------------------------------------------------------To Purchase the new CD, “Beauty from the Ash”, go to www.alisachilders.com/music (http://www.alisachilders.com/music)There you can get the CD, backing tracks, string charts, rhythm charts and stems.Support us on Patreon:  www.patreon.com/alisachilders (http://www.patreon.com/alisachilders)To order “Another Gospel”:  www.alisachilders.com/another-gospel/ (http://www.alisachilders.com/another-gospel/)To order “Live Your Truth":  www.alisachilders.com/live-your-truth-and-other-lies/ (http://www.alisachilders.com/live-your-truth-and-other-lies/)To order “The Deconstruction of Christianity”: https://alisachilders.com/the-deconstruction-of-christianity/ (https://alisachilders.com/the-deconstruction-of-christianity/)For Alisa's Merch: https://alisachilders.creator-spring.com (https://alisachilders.creator-spring.com/)To see what gear Alisa uses to record her podcast, go to:https://kit.co/alisachilders (https://kit.co/alisachilders)Potential Sponsors: https://alisachilders.com/sponsor-request-form/ (https://alisachilders.com/sponsor-request-form/)Product links are affiliate links which means if you buy something we'll receive a small commission.

I think I even said this to you in our first meeting. I love Jesus bride, but I don't trust her.

0:05.5

And it was our commitment to be obedient to the Lord to be in church and stay there.

0:10.6

Well, first of all, I love that you and your husband were super intentional about saying,

0:15.0

even though we've been hurt, we know we need the body of Christ.

0:18.5

Yeah.

0:18.9

You know, I tell people all the time, right?

0:21.4

There is no church that's perfect because our churches are full of imperfect people who are

0:26.4

hopefully trying to grow more like Christ, but the church is God's perfect plan.

and it's always my goal to equip Christians to identify the core beliefs of historic Christianity, discern its counterfeits, and proclaim the gospel with clarity, kindness, and truth.

And this is part two of our pastor series. This one has been so near and dear to my heart because I've gotten to interview several pastors who have really

1:01.3

stood out to me, whether they were our personal pastors or pastors that I've met over the years,

1:06.0

who are just being so faithful in the context and environments within which God has planted them. And today is a very,

1:12.6

very special episode for me because I'm going to share with you a conversation that I had with

1:17.3

J. Strother, who is the lead pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church right here in Brentwood, Tennessee.

1:22.5

And he has actually been my husband, Mike, and my pastor for the past eight years. And he has shepherded us through

1:30.2

some really interesting times. In fact, my whole platform sort of kind of exploding into what it is

1:37.2

today happened while Jay was our pastor. And he has just been such a wonderful pastor to us.

1:43.6

And then God moved him to a different

1:45.5

campus. And so then next week you're going to hear from our current pastor, but we still consider

1:50.8

Jay to be our pastor as well. And so I'm really excited to bring that conversation to you because

1:55.9

we're going to be talking about a topic that I think is very relevant to a lot of people, and that is the topic of church hurt.
