Summary

“If you have a voice and you can use it to help somebody else, then by golly, use it.”

For three full years, trainer Charlee Atkins — now the founder of the wildly popular workout app and digital platform Le Sweat TV — had to seriously psych herself up to teach indoor cycling classes every day. When you're a fitness instructor, you have to show up as your best self every time for your students. But what about when you're just not feeling it? On this edition of Feel-Good Fridays, Charlee talks about how she used to psych herself up, and what she's done to make sure she never needs to fake it until she makes it again. She offers advice for finding motivation when it's lacking, opens up about her own insecurities, and talks about how being bullied as a kid has helped her become a better, stronger person. Plus, tips for how to better communicate in our new all-digital-all-the-time world.

I love that. I need more of that breathing feels good. Feel Good Fridays. It's fun to say isn't it?

These episodes are intended to be short and sweet and packed with good stuff we get right to the point on these.

My goal with this series is to get a personal pep talk basically and who better to give a pep talk than some of the country's leading fitness instructors.

If I'm being honest, this lineup includes my personal favorite fitness instructors as well.

Fitness instructors are always on. They're not afraid of the spotlight. They know all the best music.

1:04.2

They always look the part. They, it seems, have it all figured out.

1:09.2

At least that's how I've always seen it.

1:11.2

But on these episodes, we're learning what goes on behind the scenes because turns out fitness instructors,

1:17.4

even the really famous ones, are humans too. They have feelings and emotions and sometimes they don't feel like showing up

or running or riding or doing push ups or burpees. I never felt like doing burpees.

1:29.9

Sometimes they like motivation. Sometimes they feel insecure. Sometimes they too fall into the old comparison trap.

1:37.9

So let's learn from them by asking these instructors about how they get psyched up on an off day or how they find motivation when it's lacking.

1:46.9

We in turn get a whole lot of advice about how we can all show up as our best selves every single day.

1:54.3

Even when it needs a little extra nudge.

Last week Bethany Lyons was here talking about how even when her yoga studio burned down
