She explains that dogs do not have a carbohydrate requirement and that a high-protein, high-fat diet is ideal for them. Courtney also highlights the presence of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in dog food, which can be carcinogenic and contribute to inflammation and disease. She emphasizes the need for pet owners to read labels and choose dog food brands that prioritize quality and transparency. Welcome back. Thanks for tuning in today on this little mini episode. I get to talk about one of my

0:04.8

favorite things, which is animals. If you follow my Instagram, you see regular occurrences,

0:10.3

appearances of my dogs, Mika the German Shepherd, and Winnie, the many Australian

0:17.2

Shepherd puppy who has recently joined our household and I love knowing that I can give our dogs the same type of nutrition that we're

0:27.4

getting or at least place enough emphasis on their nutrition in the same way

0:31.0

that we do for ours because our pets are like our kids for so many of us

0:35.3

they're just an extension they're just a four-legged child instead of a two-legged child.

0:39.2

So today we're going to talk specifically about food for dogs because I don't know if you've noticed

0:46.4

but when you go to like a boutique dog store the amount of food and dog treats and bones and supplements, it's like going to a natural health

0:58.1

grocer for humans. I mean, there's so many options and a lot of it's pretty pricey so it's kind of hard to

1:05.6

invest in things if you don't really know what your dog needs so we're going to talk about a little bit more of

1:10.9

like the mainstream dog food market so you know kind of the history behind that and really what's available to dogs because to be honest like statistics show that people spend about $30 a month on dog food,

1:22.9

which I wish that it was that inexpensive.

1:26.0

But for the most part, I mean, many of us

1:28.7

are spending probably a lot of money and resources

1:31.1

buying different things, but we don't really know if it's helping

1:33.8

our dogs and in fact we see obesity and dogs has gone up like a hundred and fifty percent over the last

1:38.7

decade. So dogs are obviously suffering metabolically but we're also seeing shortened lifespans.

1:45.2

I don't ever remember when I was a kid growing up with dogs like having a three-year-old dog with cancer

1:50.4

or lymphoma, and now we see it quite regularly even dogs that are being

1:55.2

genetically tested where breeders are like really you know stringent on like

2:00.4

what type of dogs are you know being bred and things like that we're still seeing disease so even trying to control the genetic factors there's obviously something else going on that's contributing to the accelerated rate of disease.
