A.J. Jacobs becoming fascinated with that thing,

to the point that he wrote a book about it.

And that thing is the concept of originalism and the identity that one can take

on of being an originalist.

originalist is a person who believes that if your organization or country or team or business

has some sort of written set of rules, regulations and guidelines,

then those written words should always be interpreted by their original meaning.

And right away, this fascinated me because I grew up in the deep south,

surrounded by fundamentalists who live by the concept of fundamentalism, which

is the idea that the English language King James version of the Bible should be followed literally exactly as written

Even if it conflicts with modern norms, modern laws, modern scientific understandings and so on

Even if it conflicts with itself, which it does in several places.

A.J. Jacobs also noticed this similarity with originalism, especially when it comes to constitutional

originalists who apply their originalism to the United States
