Summary

When I think about Sam, I think about a dedicated man who loved his family and lived each day as if it were his last. He went hard on his dreams, his legacy and his family. He motivated people around the world to be 1%ers. How can you go the extra mile today in every area of your life? That is how Sam's legacy will live on in every one of us.

Sam Bakhtiar is a doctor, CEO, world-class bodybuilder, multi-millionaire entrepreneur, and social media influencer. He runs four different companies, including a fitness company that some of you have probably worked out at, Camp Transformation Center.

But Sam wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth to help him accomplish so many incredible things — he was born in an active combat zone, abandoned by his father and forced to flee the war when he was a child. He has an incredible story and is on an awesome mission, and I’m so excited to share it with you in this episode!

You Will Hear About:

  •  [1:27] - This episode is repurposed from October 2019 with guest interview Sam Bakhtiar who passed away this week.
  • [2:22] - Sam lived every day like it was his last and today’s episode is a reminder of his legacy.
  • [3:01] - Cayla introduces Sam and his amazing story and background.
  • [4:51] - Sam is a family man with three children, two daughters, and a son.
  • [5:56] - The difference between Sam and others is that Sam didn’t give up. Being slapped in the face is part of the territory.
  • [6:58] - Sometimes the thing that you think is the worst thing that could ever happen to you, turns out to be the best because you learn from it.
  • [8:08] - Becoming a dad changed Sam’s life and he was determined to be the dad he did not have.
  • [9:19] - Sam’s kids don’t want for anything, but they will still need to earn privileges and know that hard work gets them far.
  • [11:18] - Sam became a doctor because of pressure from his family but used his interests in bodybuilding to become a chiropractor. He also opened a gym in 2000.
  • [13:13] - The 2008 recession was a big hit for Sam and he describes how this affected him.
  • [14:48] - Sam shares how he explained to his pregnant wife how he lost his money and his determination to make things happen.
  • [16:27] - Due to the money issues and the emotional toll it took on their relationship, he and his wife got divorced.
  • [18:19] - Sam was determined that he wouldn’t make the wrong choice and while in a hotel room, he made the choice that he was either going to be working or seeing his kids.
  • [19:14] - Once you are crystal clear on what your priorities are, decisions are much easier to make.
  • [21:41] - Sam describes the various zones you could be in: the top, which is where you want to be; rock bottom where you are struggling; and the space in the middle where you are “cruising.”
  • [22:56] - Learn that comfort is the enemy of progress. If you are comfortable with how you are living, you won’t grow.
  • [24:56] - The only person who can beat you is yourself. Sam describes how he challenged himself to beat his personal best and got things out of the way of progress.
  • [27:47] - At the time of his divorce, Sam’s gym had 6 locations.
  • [28:25] - Sam shares how his business grew exponentially from 2014 onward.
  • [29:28] - From a man’s perspective, Sam describes divorce and how respect and trust are the two key ingredients to avoiding it.
  • [31:18] - Sam shares a story about buying books for his daughters to stay at his house and an issue that arose from the situation.
  • [34:24] - When parents don’t work together, the best decisions are not made for the betterment of the children.
  • [35:12] - Even people who are so successful like Sam have struggles. The difference is perseverance.
  • [35:51] - In order to get it all done, Sam intentionally schedules alone time for...
