Hello and welcome to Sci Guys, the show where we talk about the crazy, weird and wonderful stories from the science world.

0:13.0

I'm Corey, and as always, I'm joined by my co-host, the lethargic Luke Cutforth.

0:18.0

You know what? True. This week we're talking about circadian science and maladaptive melatonin.

0:32.6

But first look, I've got a little question for you.

0:35.6

Question ahead.

0:36.6

Do you have ADHD and how is your sleep? Two questions. I lied. There's two questions. Answer them now. Bad is the answer to both of those. Snap. Same. So we're talking about this whole... You sent this to me, actually, didn't you? Probably. I don't remember anything that happened more than yesterday. That's because of the ADHD. No, you sent me this study. Well, you didn't send me this study. What you sent me was a tweet.

0:59.2

Ah, that's the limit of my abilities, Corey. I scroll and I send.

1:04.1

And from that tweet, I found this study, which was linked there, which I assume you haven't read.

1:08.3

Oh, is this to do with basically treating ADHD as

1:12.0

a circadian rhythm disorder? Yes, it is. I do remember reading about this. Yes, and I did actually

1:17.2

click on the link and read a little bit more. I'll have you know. Oh, well, well done. Good job.

1:21.0

We're on evil voting then, because I didn't read any more than that five-page paper.

1:25.8

So when did they knight Mr. Acadian science?

1:29.4

That was good. Thank you. That was good. It was severely delayed, which makes sense because of the ADHD, right? That checks out. Well, I couldn't interrupt your intro, Gary. Oh, no, you've never done that before. Not once. That would just be uncouth. No, so this study, you sent it to me, as I said,

1:46.1

it's about ADHD stuff, circadian rhythm

1:49.0

disorder, circadian rhythm being, you know, the thing that makes you go to sleep and wake up

1:53.0

at the right time.

1:54.0

We both have ADHD.

1:55.0

Yeah, I spent my 20s basically being like, why do I have a thing where I want to go to sleep at like three in the morning and I can work until three or four in the morning and go to sleep and wake up at midday. And that's when I get my best work done. And if I try to work at normal hours like a normal person, I don't get anything done. And then someone was like, maybe I have ADHD. And then I spent three hours, three years being like, no. This is just a personal choice I'm making. I'm pretty sure on the podcast, in the ADHD episode, I was like, hey, I think I'm, like, I have two of these things. I might have ADHD and I was shut down so immediately, like being told, no, that's, that's not enough. To be fair, though, I didn't realize all of the other things

2:35.0

that meant that I had ADHD at the time. That too, yeah. I mean, this story, basically, this

2:39.9

study when I saw it, hooked into two of my great loves that will get my attention, which is first,

2:44.6

reading about ADHD and how to improve it. And second, reading about how it's not actually real
